Spooky Season
The Graveyard book was such an interesting book to read. I think the concept of the book and what it teaches kids is really good as well. If I was a teacher I would teach this book around Halloween as well because it gives the spooky feeling for the month and something interesting for the kids to read around Halloween. There are so many fun activities that you can do with the book to include the content and the characters and to see if the kids understood the book. I think that one way I would teach this book is to have a writing assignment where they get to pick their favorite character and write them a letter. The letter will contain how the character made them feel or why they like the character as well. They can express their own emotions towards the character and connect with them as well. Or I would have them go in groups and make a little video of a scene that they like. They would have to act it out from what they have read and how they take the book and they can dress up to make up and make a little clip of a scene from the book. I think either of the activities would be fun for the kids around Halloween to dress up and have fun with it. This would show me as a teacher that they really understood the book if they put on a proper scene or wrote a thoughtful letter to a character. If we wanted we could take a step further and make it more fun by me actually sending the letters to the author of the book. You never know we could get a letter back and that would really make the kids feel special.
The way you wanna teach a book can vary from teacher to teacher but this is my preference of how I would teach The Graveyard book to my students.
